 Top Five Public Golf Courses

1. Lake of Isles (North Stonington, Connecticut)

Description:

This coarse opened in 2005 and is one of the best golf courses in Connecticut. It is my favorite course in my opinion. It is near the Foxwoods casino, so it is always fun to play a round and then enjoy a nice dinner and a night of gambling. This course designed by Rees Jones is a perfect layout and each hole flows perfectly into the next. I highly recommend this coarse to anyone who is interested!

2. The Golf Club at Oxford Greens (Oxford, Connecticut)

Description:

This is a very unique coarse that is spread across 680 acres of landscape; It has been designed in a way that will absolutely amaze you. The creators of this course gained their inspiration from classic architecture, creating a beautiful layout for all of the holes. There is also a nice driving range to practice your skills. Ranging from 5100 yards to 7100 yards, the different tee sets allow for players with any skill level to have fun on this course!

3. Wintonbury Hills (Bloomfield, Connecticut)

Description:

This amazing course was designed by a well-respected course designer named Pete Dye. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2020, but his amazing courses still live on. It is a Par 70 layout and is a total length of 6,711 yards. It is a great course for golfers at any skill level.

4. Great River Golf Club (Milford, Connecticut)

Description:

Great River Golf Club has been a Connecticut staple for a long time. It began as a private golf course that was created by Tom Fazio. After the years passed it was recently acquired by Sacred Heart and converted into a public course for everyone to enjoy. They supply top level services to their guests, amazing food, and great experiences. It is a very difficult course with long holes, small fairways, interesting ponds, and tough pin locations. Some holes run along the Housatonic River, and it makes for some great views in the process. This is a beautiful course and I highly recommend it to any golfer with an intermediate to advanced skill level.

5. Fox Hopyard (East Haddam, Connecticut)

Description:

Fox Hopyard is a course that supply's its players with an extremely unique experience. As you play through open pastures, dense forests, rolling hills, and wetlands you can really appreciate the time and money that has been spent to keep this course in great shape. In addition, they were one of the first Connecticut courses to introduce GolfBoards to their club. These are similar to stand-up motor scooters; However, they allow you to basically "surf" around the course. This adds another layer of fun to the experience, and I highly recommend this to a player with any skill level.
